Circular Walk Rothersthorpe Fishing lakes

Distance - 2 Miles

Terrain - Easy

Time - Approx 40 minutes

Starting at Rothersthorpe Village Hall, head east along Church Street and pick up the footpath on the right hand side. Climbing the stile head south through 2 paddocks and across a second stile.
The trail starts to ramp up as the footpath meets up with the road on north Street. Cross a third stile and follow the path across the field hand-railing the hedge row that runs parallel to the road on your left hand side.

The Fishing Lakes are contained within a fenced area that can be accessed through a small livestock gate or over another stile. Spend some time exploring the cut paths and a path that runs around both lakes.

At the southern corner of the fishing lakes there are two footpaths, one exits the lake by a stile and one by a kissing gate in the hedgerow. Exit via the kissing gate and continue south around the field, keeping the hedgerow on your left hand side. As you progress around the field a power line forms the southerly boundary of this walk and marks a change in direction as you start to head west keeping the hedgerow to your left hand side. This hedgerow forms the Southern Rothersthorpe Parish Boundary with Gayton.

Crossing a further 2 fields you change direction turning right and head north back towards Rothersthorpe (if the footpath leads you into a wooded copse you have gone too far). Keep the hedgerow on your left and head up the ascending field and passing back under the power line.

Across a second field you will climb over a stile and follow the footpath diagonally across the field, you have a good sight of both the Manor Farm House, Old Rectory and Church of St Peter & St Paul. Across the final stile the trail takes you down a narrow pathway between the Old rectory and the thatched Studleigh Cottage, exiting the gravel driveway back to the Village Hall.

Circular Walk Rothersthorpe To Northampton Arm

Terrain - Easy

Time - Approx 1 Hour 30 Minutes

Starting at Rothersthorpe Village Hall take the path behind the Church of St peter & St Paul, the trail takes you down a narrow pathway between the Old rectory and the thatched Studleigh Cottage, through the kissing gate and into the field. Cross diagonally to meet with a stile in the bottom corner. Climb over and head south across two fields keeping the hedgerow on your right hand side.

At the bottom of the field the footpath hooks to the right and into a wooded copse, proceed along the copse and across a small stream before emerging into the next field. head towards the iron footbridge that crosses the canal and descend the embankment onto the Grand Union Canal.

Follow the canal footpath with the water on your right hand side and continue until you reach the Northampton Arm Navigation (T Junction that links Northampton Arm and the River Nene with the Grand Union Canal)
Turn left proceeding along the Arm where the towpath meets the road and hump back bridge, cross the bridge and rejoin the canal on the right hand side (water to the left).

You will pass Gayton Marina on the left and under a hump back bridge before you reach the Old Lock Keepers Cottage and "Top Lock". Check out the information board about Northampton Arm before heading down the canal. Keep an eye out at each lock where there are nature mosaics depicting features of the Arm.

At Lock 9 cross the lock gates and jump the run off gully to rejoin the footpath across the field. Follow the diagonal footpath across 2 fields adjoined by a concrete footbridge. Return to Rothersthorpe North Street exiting the field by the Pumping House, cross the road and continue along Church Street past the Memorial Garden before returning to Rothersthorpe Village Hall.

Circular Walk Rothersthorpe to Anchor Farm

Distance - 3.7 Miles

Terrain - Easy

Time - Approx 1 Hour 40 Minutes

Starting at Rothersthorpe Village Hall proceed west along Church Street, passing the Church, Old Rectory and Manor Farm House until you reach the T Junction with Church St and the Banbury Lane.

Turn left at the junction and follow the footpath by the Dickens Field Community Space and join the main carriageway for a short distance before picking up the footpath on the right hand side.

Crossing diagonally across the field you pop out of the hedgerow onto a narrow lane, crossing over and continuing across the next field descending down to a small stream and copse. You cross the stream and continue west along the footpath. Ahead of you, you will see some brick barn buildings and a break in the footpath, one continuing straight past the barn buildings and a footpath that branches off to the left.

Take the left footpath and proceed south east across the middle of the field crossing two fields until you join the main Banbury Lane.

Rejoin the main carriageway for a small distance and head towards the driveway of Anchor Farm before turning left and down to the hump back bridge and canal towpath.

Joining the canal turn left and proceed with the water on your right hand side continue east until you get level with the iron footbridge to Gayton. Going under the bridge and climbing the embankment on to the footpath head north along the field until you reach a wooded copse and small stream. Cross the footbridge and continue along the copse and out into the field.

You will see a treeline and hedgerow diagonally left, head towards the treeline and follow the footpath along the edge of the field keeping the hedgerow on your left hand side.

Proceed north up the field, passing under a power line and through a second field.

Once across a second field you will climb over a stile and follow the footpath diagonally across the field, you have a good sight of both the Manor Farm House, Old Rectory and Church of St Peter & St Paul. Across the final stile the trail takes you down a narrow pathway between the Old rectory and the thatched Studleigh Cottage, exiting the gravel driveway back to the Village Hall.
